As October comes to a close and November creeps in, the veil between the worlds is at its thinnest. During the two days following Halloween - November 1st and 2nd - Día de los Muertos invites us to do something radical: to sit with our dead, not in grief, but in gratitude and reciprocity. This ancient Mexican celebration, rooted in honoring the soul’s transition to the other side, recognizes that our ancestors never truly leave. They live in our blood, our instincts, our gifts, and yes - also our wounds.
The marigold, known as the flower of the dead, is said to guide ancestral spirits home with its vivid color and intoxicating scent. With this year’s astrology being about the deepest of spiritual reclamations, we are not just honoring those who came before us. We are sending healing backward through the lineage - to our parents, our grandparents, and every soul whose love and struggle made our existence possible. And in return, we're asking them to transmit forward the gifts that lie dormant in our bloodline, waiting to be reclaimed by us.
Día de los Muertos Ancestral Healing & Exchange Ritual
GATHER your tools: You will need the Día de los Muertos Magic Candle, the Ancestral Blessing Anointing Oil, marigolds, and images of your ancestors.
ARRANGE your ancestor images on a flat surface, placing marigolds around them as an offering. Let the flowers form a path leading to the center of your altar, a bridge between their world and yours.
ANOINT your wrists, heart center, and the back of your neck with the Ancestral Blessing Anointing Oil, opening yourself to receive what your lineage carries for you.
HOLD the Día de los Muertos Magic Candle in both hands and close your eyes. Visualize a golden thread of light connecting you to your parents, then their parents, then theirs, traveling as far back as your heart can reach.
LIGHT the candle and say aloud: “To those who came before me, I send you healing. Every wound that passed down ends with me. Every gift that was buried, I now call forward. I am ready to receive what belongs to me by blood and by soul.”
SIT in stillness for as long as feels right, breathing slowly and remaining open. Notice any images, feelings, or memories that arise - these are your ancestors speaking.
PLACE one Marigold bloom in front of each ancestor image as a final offering, thanking them by name if you know them. Leave the candle to burn down completely as the exchange is sealed.
